Business & Economy

marketingThere are many ways to market your product or business. Before you start to market anything, you should do your homework. Spend some time looking into what makes successful marketing campaigns and financial costs associated with your thoughts and ideas. Obviously, if you have a new company just starting off, finances are going to be the main factor in how you will be able to afford marketing supplies. Many companies out there can help you print your ideas and make them look professional without paying an arm and a leg.

Sticky notes can be an easy way to get your message out there and would not take a lot of creativity. Sticky notes have been around for years. The general purpose of them is to draw your attention to something specific and quickly. Sticky notes come in different sizes and colors. You can have your business name, address, phone number and website printed on them. Another option would be to have your slogan printed on them. They can help create a buzz about your business or product. With permission, you might be able to post them on mailboxes, office doors, and pizza boxes and within college campuses if applicable. Reaching out to many people in one location would be an inexpensive way to advertise.

Door hangers could be another way to create a promotion campaign for your business or product. The thought behind this idea would be similar to the “do not disturb” signs in a hotel. This would be another somewhat subtle approach to creating a buzz. You could customize the design and make it attractive and professional looking. Many templates out there could help you create these on your own. In addition, many websites could help create them and print them for you. Though I am not sure of the costs associated with this, if it creates business it is a worthy investment. Advertising should always be figured into any startup costs of a business or product. In addition, it is part of the biggest investment of having your own business and being your own boss.

Another way to market your business or product is a little more obvious, but again can be customized. Business cards have always been a great way to get your name out there to the public. However, have you ever thought of going to a bookstore or library with your business cards? Not to just hand them out, anyone can do that. Instead, randomly place them in different books that may pertain to what your business is.

This approach is not guaranteed to reach the masses but more of a personal and intimate way. However, this approach will start to generate word of mouth conversations. In theory, word of mouth is the most inexpensive and most accurate way to advertise. Besides, think of the story that the person will tell to their friends after finding your business card within the book they purchased at the local bookstore or library.

Bumper stickers are always a way to draw people in. They do not have to be specific to cars. With a sticker, you can put it anywhere. Obviously, you do not want to deface any property or put them up illegally. However, there are many places in public that can be accommodated to stickers. Just think of garage sale posters or missing animal posters and where you see those kinds of advertisements.  High traffic areas, bright colors and big print would probably work best in this instance. With this approach, you would have to be bold and direct to get your point across quickly. Especially with the thought that you would only have people’s attention until the light changed.

You could create a top ten list about your business or products. However, you would have to make sure that all the reasons on your list are true, humorous, and memorable. With these qualities in mind you would create conversations about your business, which eventually would draw people in to check it out for themselves. You can enlist the help of your friends to help with your top ten. Anytime you create something regarding your business, you always want to start with the truth. This lowers the possibility of being sued for false advertising or misrepresentation. Once your list is created, the possibilities are endless as to where to place the list. You can put it on your website, local newspaper or any other social media site.

If you are selling a specific product, you can always hold a public demonstration. This is an approach to capture the attention of many people at once. Therefore, you would want it to be exciting and fun. In addition, you would have to look for the right venue, perhaps a festival or a market. Although, putting on a demonstration could be an expensive way to advertise since you may have to pay the space to hold the demonstration. So you may not want to try this approach right away depending on the financial situation of your business.

Making up window decals is another way to get your business name out there. Maybe even ask your friends to put them in their cars. This way you can cover more ground and it would be rather inexpensive. Having a large support group also, helps launch any business. By talking to your friends and family, it is also a way to ensure that you appeal to the masses when putting products or services out there.

If there are events happening in your community you can always look into becoming a sponsor. Usually, this is rather expensive but it would put your name and business out there throughout the entire event. This may be an option to build up to rather than a starting place.

Giving away shirts is another way to create customers. However, there are a lot more variables that you would have to take into consideration if you were going to take this approach. This idea could also be something maybe to strive for rather than start with. But then again, it all depends on your opinion and what you are able to do.

As you can see, there are many ways to create a buzz about your business or products that you are selling. The bottom line is that it comes down to what you are able to afford and make happen. Every business and product has to start somewhere and in order to become successful you have to keep trying.
